PO Box 609, Lake Forest, CA 92609-0609 USA Saturday, June 23, 2012 Marvin Winans Performs with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra at 2012 World Choir Games Closing Ceremony By Ginny McCabe Special to ASSIST News Service CINCINNATI, OH (ANS) -- The public can attend more than 200 events during the 7th World Choir Games from July 4 to 14 in Cincinnati, OH, including competitions, concerts, workshops, free public performances and more. On Tuesday, June 19, The Cincinnati Organizing Committee and INTERKULTUR, the International Organizing Committee, released details of the event schedule and a list of choirs that are expected to perform at the Games. The events are expected to draw 15,000 participants from 64 countries and 22 U.S. states, including 362 choirs, 61 judges, choral and INTERKULTUR officials. There will be 68 sessions of competitions, more than 60 Friendship Concerts, 41 workshops, nine Official Events, eight Celebration Concerts, 14 pin trading classes and two signings of the Games’ Official Poster by renowned illustrator C.F. Payne. There will be a procession from the main entrance of Great American Ball Park, near The Banks, to U.S. Bank Arena starting at 5 p.m. on July 4, as choirs make their way to the Opening Ceremony, which begins at 7 p.m. The choirs will assemble inside Great American Ball Park. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bootsy Collins and Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory will be co-Grand Marshals for the July 10 Parade of Nations, which will start at Duke Energy Convention Center and end at Fountain Square. The parade, which starts at 6 p.m. and features participating choirs and will be followed by a brief program, a live performance of “I Can – the Official Song of the World Choir Games” and the American Roots music program – Bluegrass, Folk, Rockabilly and Honky Tonk – on the Square as part of the PNC Summer Music Series. Additionally, Grammy winner and gospel singer, Marvin Winans, from the Winans family, will sing “Oh Happy Day” with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra at the July 14 Closing Ceremony at U.S. Bank Arena. Winans, a pastor in Detroit, Mich., gave the eulogy at Whitney Houston’s funeral in February.
