PO Box 609, Lake Forest, CA 92609-0609 USA Sunday, June 24, 2012 Joy Junction Reduces Energy Usage with PNM Fund Grant News Release from Jeremy Reynalds at Joy Junction Tel: (505) 400-7145 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (ANS) -- Joy Junction Homeless Shelter has completed a project funded by a $4,300.00 grant from the PNM Fund to implement energy savings measures. The grant is one of 57 Reduce Your Use grants awarded in 2011 by the PNM Fund to nonprofits around the New Mexico to provide tools for increased energy efficiency and lower bills. Joy Junction Founder and CEO Dr. Jeremy Reynalds said, “With these new window units, we are pleased to be able to provide a more comfortable environment for our homeless guests, while making better use of our resources.” Joy Junction used the grant to purchase 31 energy-efficient window air conditioners to replace older model air conditioners at the homeless shelter. The result has been lower average daily usage of kilowatt hours. Despite a 1.30 percent increase in the average maximum temperatures for the months of July through October of 2011, as compared to the same months for 2010, Joy Junction saw an average savings of 12.20 percent in usage for those buildings equipped with the new air conditioners. Since opening its doors in 1986, Joy Junction has grown to become New Mexico's largest homeless shelter. For more than 25 years, the shelter has provided help and hope for the homeless and hungry in the Albuquerque area. The nonprofit provides food, shelter, clothing, and other services to as many as 300 women, children and families each day. In 2011, Joy Junction served as many as 205,000 meals and provide 120,000 nights of shelter. Anyone who needs help is welcome at Joy Junction, without regard to race, color, age, national origin, sexual orientation or religion. Any 501(c)3 organization operating within PNM's electric service territory was eligible to submit a grant application. For more information about the PNM Fund, visit www.pnm.com.
