CREATIONIST DEPARTMENT FORMED AT ALFA OMEGA TV IN ROMANIA
By Michael Ireland

TIMISOARA, ROMANIA (ANS) -- Alfa Omega TV in Timisoara, Romania, has announced the formation within its organization of a Creationist Department, expanding their existing ministry of reaching ex-communist people in Romania and the surrounding countries with the Word of God and specifically geared toward the Romanian educational system.
Current plans call for dissemination of educational materials, both scientific and theological, through video tape distribution, TV and radio programs by production and distribution, books and brochures, newsletters, and multimedia tools. In addition, the Creationist Department will organize events, campaigns and other special projects, according to a press release.
The release said that a primary target of the new
initiative is the Romanian educational system, but materials will be distributed also in Moldavia, Yugoslavia and other Southeastern European countries.
Initial results from between November and December, 2001 have included a series of five Creationism TV shows featuring Dr. Emil Silvestru taped in the Alfa Omega studio.
One live show in Alfa Omega's weekly series "The Way, The Truth, and The Life" focused on the creationism theme and was aired on the local TV broadcasting station Europa Nova in Timisoara to an audience of half-a-million people. This production has had a major impact in Timisoara and is rebroadcast now on 14 other TV stations across Romania.
Special TV productions/documentaries have been distributed, such as “Mt. Saint Helens” (ICR), “A Question of Origins” (Eternal Productions), “How the World Came to Be” (EO),
"Wonder of God's Creation" (Moody), and others were distributed via local TV channels throughout the country.
The plans also call for the expansion of the educational video libraries for youth, another media project started by Alfa Omega in 2001, with a segment dedicated to Creationism topics. Nearly 80 public schools and Christian organizations in Romania received at least one program from Alfa Omega's creationism collection.
A spokesman said: "Please unite your prayers with ours, asking God to prosper this new undertaking by using it to glorify His name and to reach with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ many who otherwise might never listen to the Word of God."
The need for this new work is expressed clearly by Charlotte Beckett, a Christian worker from the United States who wrote: "Creationism is desperately needed in all parts of Europe, especially Romania. I have been involved in ministry in Romania since 1999 and have seen the absolute confusion that resides in people's hearts concerning what they believe and how to process all that has happened to them over the last five decades. It is as if some fundamental truth is missing in their picture of how all life is supposed to be. Creationism is one such key truth...."
Alfa Omega TV is one of the major media organizations from southeastern Europe, serving God in Romania from 1994 in TV production and distribution.
