A media release states that David N. Weiss’s credits as co-writer include “Shrek 2”, the screenplay for “The Rugrats Movie,” and “Rugrats in Paris,” two of the highest grossing traditional animated features of all time. He was also responsible for the acclaimed perennial “Rugrats Channukah Special.”
The release says David joins three other media professionals who have agreed to act as co-judges. Anna Cox, BBC TV’s commissioning executive in Religion and Ethics programs with a long and distinguished career as producer and director in global film and documentary making; Dr Rajinder Dudrah, Head of Drama and Senior Lecturer in Screen Studies at the University of Manchester. Rajinder’s special interests include Bollywood cinema, Black British representation, and cultural theory and qualitative research methods as applied to popular culture; Sarfraz Manzoor, writer and broadcaster whose work has appeared in publications as diverse as the Daily Mail, The Independent, The Observer, Uncut, The Spectator, Prospect and The New Statesman. Sarfraz’s TV credits include 'The Great British Asian Invasion' and 'Death of a Porn Star' as well as a regular on Radio 4's 'Saturday Review' and Newsnight Review.
A Call for Entries to the competition began in June, and the organizers describe the response to date as ‘encouraging’. Entries are invited from throughout the UK and may be received until September 28, 2007. Some of the best films received will be shown in the Insight Festival in Manchester during November 2007.
The Insight Festival aims to encourage the use of moving image creativity to promote community cohesion and understanding; to offer a platform for creative people of different cultural and faith backgrounds to explore and communicate the phenomenon and potency of faith using contemporary moving images; and to encourage dialogue, communication and insight between people of different faiths and none.
