God Bless You Bob Walker!

By Ken Joseph Jr.

TOKYO, JAPAN (ANS) -- Every generation has a servant leader - a man or woman who quietly does God`s work, hoping not to get any credit.

Bob Walker was such a man. He was seemingly everywhere – everywhere God was moving, that is!

I first met Bob Walker many years ago when I was a student at Biola University in La Mirada, California. God was moving on the and there was prayer for revival on the campus.

Everywhere one would go there were “Pray For Revival” posters, prayer groups and an atmosphere of expectancy.

One of the things we were doing was having people throughout the world – this was before there was an Internet – pray for revival, as prayer was urgently needed to see God work.

At that time Christian Life was one of the main Christian magazines and we were finding it difficult to get any of the others to place the simple ad which read, “Request Prayer For Spiritual Awakening and Revival on the campus of Biola University”.

Going all the way to Carol Stream, a suburb of Chicago, to meet with Bob and try and persuade him to run our ad, I was pleasantly surprised to meet a kind, gentle man who seemed to be able to say “yes” to anything God was doing.

He readily agreed to run the ad and in his kindly way took us under his wing in regularly reporting the move of God on campus and raising prayer on our behalf

God moved in a powerful way shortly after that fateful meeting, and in a morning chapel service nearly the whole student body knelt on their knees on the hard floor of the Gymnasium as the Holy Spirit swept across the campus.

Where Bob was, there was a move of God!

A few years later I was taking a class at Fuller Theological Seminary on “Signs And Wonders” and there, sure enough, was Bob Walker, furiously taking notes at the back of the class.

After a big hug, I teased him and said, “Bob – whenever God is moving you seem to be there.”

He laughed because he knew it was true!

It was only weeks later that he wrote a cover story on the move of God at Fuller Theological Seminary that shook the Church and launched another move of God that brought life and revival throughout the world.

Many years later, in 2000, there was another powerful movement of God on the Biola Campus and looking into the bleachers, I half expected to see Bob there smiling as he sat furiously writing another article to spread the blessing!

Who was Bob Walker?

Much will be written on his contributions to Christian Publishing and so many other fields, but I believe he is simply one that we should all aim to be like – excited about just one thing in life – the movement of the Holy Spirit.

Can he be replaced? No.

Can we follow in his footsteps?

Yes we can.

The simplicity of a man surrendered to God, enjoying nothing more in this life than to watch God work and be there when he does.

May God raise up a generation of Bob Walker’s who will fall in love with Him and enjoy his presence!
