The story said that this was according to the country's Vice-President Rupiah Banda, who said President Mwanawasa was seen off by Egyptian Minister of Health Dr H Elgabaly, Zambian Foreign Affairs Minister Kabinga Pande, Finance Minister Ng'andu Magande, Tourism Minister Michael Kaingu and Local Government and Housing Minister Sylvia Masebo.

Others who saw him off included Justice Minister George Kundu and Lusaka Province Minister Lameck Mangani.

The story said that President Mwanawasa was accompanied by First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa, his daughter, Chipo, Health Minister Dr Brian Chituwo and State House Minister for Presidential Affairs Cecil homes.

The President is said to be in a stable condition after he suffered a stroke at the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm-el-Sheikh on Sunday.

He was attending the 11th AU Heads of State and Government summit which ended Tuesday.

“He was hospitalized in Sharm-El-Sheikh International hospital. Egyptian President Hosni Mubaraki, Tazanian President Jakaya Kitwete, Ghanaian President John Kufuor, Malawi's Dr. Bingu Wa Mutharika and Namibia's Hifikepunye Pohamba visited him at the hospital," said the http://allafrica.com story.

“Meanwhile, Mr. Banda said the government had continued to receive messages wishing President Mwanawasa a speedy recovery from various heads of state and government.”

President Mwanawasa caused a sensation in 2005 when he was publically baptized in the grounds of a Lusaka Baptist Church after he had given his life to Christ.
