COLUMBIA, S.C. (ANS) -- It’s a time of historic change for Indonesia's government.

James P. LaRose

The U.S. State Department and U.S. Embassy Indonesia will send James P. LaRose to Jakarta, Borneo, and Sumatra to address government officials, corporate executives, and academic leaders on the issues of nonprofit enterprise, philanthropy and civic service in an emerging democracy.

According to a news release, LaRose will take his message of “mercy-doing” and corporate social responsibility to Indonesia for a ten day Keynote Address Tour in Jakarta, Borneo and Sumatra in April.

The tour's theme is “Beyond Government: The Role of the Citizen, Civil Society, and Corporations in a Democracy.”

Known internationally as a speaker and author, LaRose works with ministries and nonprofit agencies helping them to “find needs and meet them.”

The news release from LaRose said the U.S. State Department has asked him to challenge Indonesian corporations and officials to create philanthropic infrastructure as a necessary part of their emerging economy.

According to the news release LaRose likes to say, “Never in the course of human history has a society produced enterprise whose sole and only purpose is to benefit the public good. We call this movement the nonprofit sector...it is the crown jewel of our society.”

The news release stated that as part of a young democratic nation, Indonesia's government officials are learning how to include their citizens and organizations to create positive change. Following decades of autocracy and corruption, the country is entering a new era of democratic growth and financial prosperity.

The news release said that due to the United State's interest in seeing a true democracy develop in Indonesia, they are using LaRose and his more than 20 years of experience to encourage Indonesia's reform agenda.

LaRose will meet with government officials, social activists, university students, and corporate executives in the Jakarta and Medan consular districts during eight speaking engagements over ten days.
