These mothers were grateful for the annual medical check up their child receives at the Bridge of Hope center.

MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA (ANS) -- There were 50 mothers at the Bridge of Hope center in Mumbai last fall, each waiting for a turn to talk about her son or daughter. The mothers were at the center because it was time for their child’s annual medical check up.

For most of these children, the annual Bridge of Hope checkups are the only time they see a doctor. In spite of this lack of medical care, these children were all remarkably healthy. The doctor who assessed the children at the center in Mumbai gave most of them a clean bill of health!

Of the few with health issues, some were treated at the center, and a few with minor skin problems were referred to a local medical clinic for further treatment.

These mothers who accompanied their students say they are happy the centers take an interest in the children’s health, as well as their education.

The clinic was a great success and even drew the attention of a local television station. A cable news crew later aired footage of the event. These news stories go a long way in creating positive public sentiment about the Bridge of Hope centers.
