LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND (ANS) -- When businessman Ged Tyrrell first heard the Old Testament Template teaching it completely transformed his whole outlook on life, which has now led him to establish an annual conference called City Gate to equip other Christian leaders to reach their full potential.

Tyrrell, Managing Director of a building services controls and engineering company based in Lancashire, first heard this teaching at a YWAM conference in Switzerland.

City Gate keynote speaker Landa Cope

“I went to this conference in Switzerland at a YWAM base in Burtigny, with keynote speaker Landa Cope, who’s been with YWAM for 40 years,” explains Tyrrell.

He added: “Landa shared her Old Testament Template teaching taken from the books of Moses, which shows that what you do everyday of the week in influencing society around you is significant in the Kingdom of God.

“When I first heard this it was a such a great relief as I’d just given up leading 12 years of youth ministry in my church to concentrate solely on my growing business. I knew inside I was doing the right thing, but I wasn’t getting the validation by anyone around me at church, because to most of them, business was about making money, when actually in the Old Testament, business and economics is about influencing the society around you. It’s about providing employment, it’s about giving someone a sense of contribution, it’s one of many vehicles of seeing how God’s laws and the way God sees things should be done, being done.”

Tyrell explains how Landa Cope received this revelation on the Old Testament Template: “As a missionary in Africa, Landa received this revelation in her desperation of introducing people to Christ yet still not seeing there lives getting any better because they didn’t understand how to live. They were ‘saved’ but just through the door of the Kingdom. She pleaded with God to do more and He revealed to her that the salvation was just one piece of the full message of the gospel and it’s that full message of discipleship that’s so important. How we should live is revealed very clearly in the Old Testament as well as the New. So it leads us to ask what it should look like then. The City Gate conference will help people to see what it should look like and what we should be doing to make things more like the way God intended them to be”.

Starting next week City Gate will be hosting two back to back events at the Park Inn hotel in Leigh, Lancashire with keynote speaker Landa Cope. The first event for business leaders takes place September 10-12 followed by their second event for church leaders September 14-16.

Tyrrell says: “In the current financial climate, now is the time more than ever how to do business God’s way. His intentions for business go far beyond that of making a profit but actually offers a wisdom in business that bring benefits to all areas of community life. Join us to re-discover God’s order for Church, Business and society and then imagine with us the transformation and redemption we can bring by being as God intended exactly where you are, doing what we are called to do.”
