COSTA MESA, CA (ANS) -- After more than a year of battling pancreatic cancer, Southern California Christian radio personality, Rich Buhler, 65, has stepped down from his daily afternoon radio program, “Talk from the Heart,” on KBRT AM740 in Los Angeles.

He did his last show on Friday, September 16, 2011, and then handed over the microphone to Roger Marsh & Dave Householder, who are now co-hosting their new show, “The Bottom Line with Roger & Hous.”

In an exclusive interview with ANS, Buhler said, “With God's help, I'm holding my own. I still have good days and bad days but overall, I'm doing well. I am still in chemotherapy on a regular basis and that sometimes slows me down, but it's going okay.”

Buhler and his wife, who he affectionately calls “Lady Dianne”, have just finished moving from their large family home to a condo in Orange County, California.

“All our kids are grown and gone and between my cancer and her orthopedic issues, it made sense to downsize and we wish we had done it sooner,” he said. “We love our new home and are grateful to God for the way that he has provided both in selling our home and buying the new one. They were two of the smoothest real estate transactions I've ever heard of or experienced and we needed that.”

Buhler went on to say, “‘Lady Dianne’ has been having shoulder problems for more than a year. She has severe osteoarthritis and no cartilage left in her right shoulder. After trying several different solutions and therapies her pain has not been reduced and on November 8, 2011, she is scheduled to have surgery for a complete shoulder replacement.

“It was a daunting task for me, as a cancer patient, and her, as an orthopedic patient, to consider moving during this time and we could not have done it without the help of people who seemed to come out of the woodwork to help us. We're lavished with wonderful family and friends and thank them all so much for their coming along side of us.

“I am doing a daily commentary on KBRT and will be doing some other feature programming and enjoying that very much. I have not retired from radio but this gives me a little more flexibility. I am relieved to have a more relaxed schedule.”

Rich Buhler, who is known as the “Dean of Christian Talk Radio,” was first diagnosed with an inoperable “mass on his pancreas” late July of last year. He was admitted to a local hospital and, after a biopsy, it was revealed that he had a “mass on his pancreas.”

Following news of his cancer, Buhler says he was overwhelmed with thousands of messages from people around the world who said they had been praying for him.

After a time away from the microphone, he came back to host to the show part time in January, 2011, and in February went five-days-a week when he felt well enough to do so.

But now he felt it is time to hand over to others.

Besides his own battle with cancer, Buhler’s wife Dianne also found out that she had melanoma, and this has been removed and so far she is now cancer free.

“Once again we thank everyone for their prayers and communications of support and encouragement,” Buhler added.

Note: If you would like to send a message of encouragement to Rich Buhler and his wife, Dianne, just send it to me at and I’ll be glad to forward it to them.
