PO Box 609, Lake Forest, CA 92609-0609 USA Saturday, November 26, 2011 Beware of Christians By Dan Wooding Founder of ASSIST Ministries DALLAS, TX (ANS) -- Beware of Christians is a new movie that charts the adventures (and misadventures) of Alex Carroll, Matt Owen, Michael B. Allen and Will Bakke, recent college graduates and longtime friends from Dallas, as they cross 10 European countries asking locals and tourists alike about the relevance of the Christian faith in today’s world.
According www.bewareofchristians.com, the movie’s website: “Alex, Matt, Michael, and Will have grown up as Bible-believing Christians who did all the right things. As they’ve grown older, they’ve realized that the Jesus in the Bible doesn’t exactly look like the healthy, wealthy, American Jesus they’ve been trained to know and love. They soon realize that their biases and allegiances to worldly things have determined their views on Christianity. “Their travels feature 10 European cities including Barcelona, Rome, Budapest, and Munich. Beginning in London, they narrate from a roundtable in a studio city by city, tackling topics such as materialism, sexuality, alcohol, and entertainment. As the journey progresses, they build a deep bond with each other and discover a new meaning for the words, ‘trusting in Jesus.’ By the end of their adventure, they truly begin to understand the joy and redemption that comes from giving up the world to follow Jesus.” It all sounds to be a really promising premise, but to this elderly journalist I found it hard going to try and follow what was going on, as there were interminable scenes of the young men talking followed by them trying to interview people in a really amateurish way. Still, I feel it was good that these young men at least tried to broaden their horizons and exposed themselves to other points of view.
