Barry McGuire has a new job – he‘s a butler to his wife Mari

FRESNO, CA (ANS) -- Barry McGuire, the legendary singer who had a number-one hit in the Sixties with “Eve of Destruction”, has just started a new career: he has been pressed into service as a butler in their California home by his New Zealand-born wife, Mari.

Barry McGuire -- the butler

His new job began after Mari fell hard on a flagstone and fractured her right patella and the fracture, as she said, “Is right in the middle, left to right, so now my kneecap has two pieces - top and bottom instead of one.”

It was then that Mari had the idea of turning her musical husband into a butler.

“I just want to update you on my ‘butler’ training,” she said. “I've named my butler ‘Brabinger’ (after the butler in the BBC TV series ‘To The Manor Born’).

"The first step was to educate the said butler to buy food (nothing else) at Costco. With such food he has been able to create a very tasty green salad, chop up fruit for fruit salad, and navigate the sticky steps of creating French toast."

Mari went on to say:

The 'real' Brabinger

“He's successfully loaded the dishwasher, and (after detailed instruction) managed to choose the correct washing cycle. He's now figuring out his way around the kitchen at large.

"Of course none of this would be possible without her ladyship, who resides and presides over all kitchen proceedings from the couch in the kitchen/family room and directs from her pillow laden perch.

"Everything is right with the world in our house….and now that I know my healing will happen naturally, I feel so much more relaxed and will enjoy every moment of this ‘break.’"
