Joy Junction Homeless Shelter Quits Sheltering Single Males Indefinitely

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (ANS) -- Homeless single men will no longer be able to turn to Joy Junction for an overnight place to stay-at least for the moment.

Joy Junction announced that effective immediately, due to an unprecedented increase in homeless women and families, homeless single men will have to look elsewhere for help.

Joy Junction Founder and CEO Dr. Jeremy Reynalds said, “It saddens our heart to have to do this. However, ever since its opening, Joy Junction’s focus has always been women and families. Our ability to help single males has always depended on how many husbands, wives and children we were helping. For the last few weeks, those numbers have been growing at a frightening rate.”

Reynalds said the decision was made as a result of the shelter having to turn away single women and a few families the last few days.

He added, “We had dedicated a room specifically to house homeless men. Single women will now sleep there. I feel terrible about this, but we are really out of options.”

Reynalds said the Joy Junction will once again house single men if and when the need by women and families for shelter services declines.
