Claiming God’s Promises for Your Children
New book from Mike Shreve

NASHVILLE, TN (ANS) -- In 1970, American Mike Shreve was a teacher of Kundalini Yoga at four universities. About 400 students looked to him as their “guru.”
He has authored eleven books that simply yet faithfully proclaim the message of hope and certainty contained in the gospel
His latest, “65 Promises from God for your Child,” was released in February by Charisma House and within two weeks ir became a bestseller.
It is easy to understand this success as it highlights the 65 specific promises that God has given the children of those who serve Him. Claiming these promises have resulted in miracles in the lives of the author’s own children.
Mike and his wife Elizabeth were told they would never have any children. However, Mike believed that when God led him to marry, He also told him he would have a son. And sure enough after several years of marriage they had a son.
Their firstborn, Zion Seth, had a very traumatic birth that, according to the attending physicians, should have left him brain damaged (from oxygen deprivation). But there is certainly nothing wrong with his brain. During high school he scored in the top 5% in the U.S. on his ACT test.
Often during the pregnancy, Elizabeth, laid hands on her stomach and quoted Psalms138:8— “d” Then she confessed, “LORD, this child concerns me. I am concerned over her health and her future. So I believe you will make her perfect.” Teary-eyed but trusting God, she often sang over this “princess-to-be” the popular song, “I Hope You Dance.”
As Elizabeth was giving birth, struggling with lingering fears, she nervously asked, “Doctor, how does she look?” Unaware of the Bible promise Elizabeth had been claiming for months, he responded, “She’s perfect.” And she was. Amazingly, by the time Destiny was four, she began showing a natural proclivity for worshipful dance. Against huge odds, both children came forth healthy and intelligent.
The Moment of Inspiration
Like most other couples, Mike and Elizabeth faced parenting challenges. Several years ago, burdened over other issues their children were facing, Mike began searching for new promises to claim. The Holy Spirit began leading him to dozens of specific Bible-promises that belonged to their children.
After “digging” about a year, he amassed 65 “nuggets” out of God’s Word—65 Biblical promises given to the offspring of those who serve God. This was tremendously empowering and led them to feel equipped to pray effectively and prophetically over their children!
From that point, they felt emboldened to claim the promises of God in their lives.
As this revelation blossomed within his heart, he realized that he needed to share this concept. “There are millions of parents “out there” who are praying in desperation, not in faith—who have little or no idea that these promises exist. I have to communicate this truth to them.”
During an interview at NRB 2013 in Nashville, Tennessee, Mike said, “There are many believers who are grief-stricken because their children may be walking in darkness, and rebelling against the faith of their parents.”
He urges them not to give in to discouragement, adding, “God has already pledged: ‘Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west; I will say to the north, “Give them up!” and to the south, “Do not keep them back!” Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth — Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” (Isaiah 43:5-7)
Through this little book Mike offers hope and encouragement from the Word of God for struggling parents. He further contends, “If we do this job of all jobs right, we need God’s assistance. At best we can only fill our children with Biblical ‘information’ that will help them make right choices in life. Only God can bring revelation that results in character transformation—and this He promises to do: “All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children.” (Isaiah 54:13)
