SANTA ANA, CA (ANS) -- Iranian-born filmmaker Joseph Hovsepian, who along with his brother Andre, has produced an award-winning documentary called “A Cry from Iran” paid a surprise visit to the opening of The China Experience at Open Doors USA offices on Monday, January 12, and agreed to talk about his film and also the persecuted church around the world.

The Rev. Haik Hovsepian preaching before he was murdered |
The film is a tribute to his murdered father, the Rev. Haik Hovsepian, who was killed for his faith in 1994 in Iran.
I began by asking Joseph to talk about his father.
“My dad was a pastor in the Iranian Church,” he said. “After 29 years of service he was martyred in 1994 in a brutal way. After that, several other pastors have also been martyred in Iran. So, after several years, and in order to both appreciate and honor their ministry and also bring an awareness to the people in West, we have made a documentary about his life and his ministry. We also wanted to bring the message of forgiveness and how today we can pray and remember countries like Iran.

I asked Joseph if he had come to the event as a way of supporting Chinese Christians today?
“Yes, definitely,” he said. “I’m familiar with persecution in Iran but not in China. The presentation definitely adds to my knowledge and understanding of China. Now I can better imagine and picture the believers in China. And that will help me to know what to pray for, and how to pray. I think this is a great tool for every American to take advantage of and to experience a little bit of what their brothers and sisters experience in countries like China and Iran.”

Andre and Joseph Hovsepian, the son of martyred Bishop Haik Hovsepian, in front of a poster for their documentary A Cry From Iran about the death of their father |
