PETRA, JORDAN (ANS) -- The National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) has
urged its 51 member denominations and 43,000 churches to mobilize for "National
Day of Mourning and Prayer" on Sunday, September 16 in response to the first
major terrorist attack against the United States.
The NAE is joining with National Prayer Committee, National Day of Prayer, and
Mission America Coalition in sponsoring a full-page advertisement in the
newspaper USA Today on Friday, September 14, calling for a "National Day of
Mourning and Prayer" on Sunday, September 16. This advertisement can be seen at

IN JORDAN
The Rev. John N Mendez, Vice President of the NAE, who is part of a 26 member
delegation of Christian journalists and leaders visiting Jordan at the
invitation of the Jordan Tourism Board, said, "The terrorist acts of September
11, 2001, and the days and weeks to follow will shape the future of the United
States.
"I am deeply saddened with the loss of innocent lives. Our prayers are for the
families of the victims and the protection of Americans everywhere. We are also
praying for our country's leadership as they face difficult decisions."
Then the Rev. Mendez, who has been visiting biblical sights and some of the
latest archeological digs, went on to say, "The Jordanian people have received
us well in their country. I applaud the Jordanian government in their efforts to
open these sights to the Christian world. The beauty of the country is much more
than the beauty of the land or the beauty of these ancient sights; it is the
real beauty of Jordan is her people and the safety one senses as you walk the
streets and tour the countryside."
The National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) represent 51 member denominations
and 43,000 churches and provides leadership to heads of state and a Clergy
in the US.
