ASSIST CANADA MOVES AHEAD WITH PROJECTS IN NICARAGUA
October 24, 2001

ONTARIO, CANADA (ANS) --
Plans are moving ahead for ASSIST Canada to help Nicaraguan pastors build an
evangelical church and school in that country, as well as increasing the number
of pastors the ministry sponsors on a regular basis.
"ASSIST Canada is moving ahead!" said Rev. Kevin Schular, a Canadian pastor who
is Director of ASSIST Canada.
"We are bringing Pastor Ruben Lopez and Pastor Herman Ruiz from Nicaragua to
Canada next month for a fundraising tour," he said.
"Herman has been given a wonderful opportunity in the old city of Granada. This
city dates back to the 1500s when the Spanish Conquistadors were exploring
Central America and one of the largest Roman Catholic cathedrals is in the
region. Herman began holding Bible studies in Granada, a city of 40,000, last
year and was recently contacted by the town council and offered several acres of
land for free if he could develop a church and school within two years. The
total cost is projected at $38,000 US," Schular told ASSIST News Service.
"ASSIST Canada has already raised $5000 and we will present it to him when he is
here next month. With this he can get started and then trust God to provide for
the rest. Please pray for him and Ruben (the ASSIST president in Nicaragua) as
they travel and present their need to churches and people in Ontario," said
Schular.
"We plan to support 14 pastors in 2002 at $50 per month. This is up from nine in
2000. We also are doing projects in El Paso, Managua, Mina la India and now in
Granada, all cities in Nicaragua," Schular said.
"We have expanded our ASSIST Board to seven members and they are all solid
Christians and good workers," Schular told ANS.
ASSIST is an international ministry started in 1988 by journalist and author,
Dan Wooding, and his wife Norma, as a way to help Christians living under
difficult circumstances, and to share the Gospel with those who do not know
Christ. They are based in Garden Grove, California, after moving to Southern
California from England in June, 1982. The ministry has offices in Australia,
Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. It has
worked in countries like Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, North Korea, Romania and the
former Soviet Union. For more information visit
