BELLFLOWER, CA (ANS) -- Recently referred to by Franklin Graham as “a seasoned evangelist,” author Ray Comfort
(Pictured) has teamed up with television star Kirk Cameron specifically to equip Christians on how to share their faith.
Comfort said, “It all began when Kirk called our ministry after listening to our tape ‘Hell’s Best Kept Secret.’ He said that he had listened to it a number of times which wasn’t unusual (one pastor listened to it 250 times). What was unusual was his maturity of understanding. I must admit that I have often been disappointed by celebrity conversions, but his is absolutely genuine.”
The well-known star of “Growing Pains” and “Left Behind” then ordered Comfort’s video series, and called the next day after viewing the first tape, saying that he was “speechless.” He then read one of Comfort's books and asked to meet up with the author, as he had so many questions about how to effectively share his faith.
Comfort said, “I was very encouraged. That book is our most important publication. I signed a contract with a large publisher, and the two editors who loved the manuscript were for some reason fired. The publisher then sat on it for fourteen months, and I was restricted to making it available only to our immediate customers. It was just recently that I was able to get free of the contract and make it available to the Body of Christ under the title, Revival's Golden Key (Bridge-Logos Publishers).
“After a three-hour lunch with him I was even more impressed with Kirk’s maturity as a Christian. I had asked him to pray about working together, and to my delight he responded positively.”
Comfort added that the two are asking churches to give them just one hour on a Sunday morning, and they will teach congregations how to effectively and inoffensively share their faith, and therefore (with God’s help) bring about true church growth. He said that too much of what is called “Church growth” is in truth “musical pews.”
A typical order of service will be that Cameron would give testimony of his conversion, and Comfort will then share “Hell’s Best Kept Secret.” Churches would also have access to his recently published, The Evidence Bible, The Evidence For Kids, and a new Bible for toddlers called, The Untearable Bible…for the terrible Twos (Bridge-Logos Publishers). This Bible is made of highly durable paper that is almost impossible for a toddler to tear. It's even said to be “ketchup proof.”
Comfort said, “When Kirk asked why I would want to team up with him, I told him that many people who normally wouldn’t darken a church doorway would be drawn to meetings because of his celebrity. I told him that with my good looks and his teaching ability, there was incredible potential.”
The author added (on a more serious note) that the two did have much in common. They both live in the Southern California area, they were both deeply concerned about the lost, and that they were both born around the same time--“his first birth, my second.”
