Albuquerque Homeless Location Map; Going Digital for the Homeless
News Release from Jeremy Reynalds at Joy Junction (Tel: 505 400 7145)
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (ANS. JULY 15) For some time, Joy Junction Homeless Shelter has wanted to expand its food, beverage and personal hygiene outreach, (as well as possibly save lives), by better identifying where the unsheltered homeless live or congregate.
By an ingenious use of technology, we have been able to move in that direction. Our Internet team has helped develop a way using Google Maps whereby concerned community members can “pin” where they see communities of homeless people perhaps in need of assistance.
While many areas typically used by the homeless are well known, some are not. We would like to have a better sense of where homeless resources are most needed.
Joy Junction Founder and CEO Jeremy Reynalds said, “I think this map is possibly a small step in that direction. I hope people will share this, and let us know what they think.”
He added, “I hope also that local media will spread this, and ensure that we all have an even better ability to provide services to those most in need.”
Reynalds added that he hopes other communities will also follow suit, and take advantage of modern technology to better help the homeless.
The map is available at Joy Junction’s Facebook page.
