LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM (ANS) — Asia Bibi, who was released earlier this year from prison in Pakistan after being held on death row for eight years on charges of blasphemy, is calling for reform of blasphemy laws.

Ruth Sax, writing for www.premier.org.uk says Bibi, in her first interview since her release from prison, told the Sunday Telegraph: “I pray to God that everyone falsely implicated in blasphemy cases should be released, that they get freedom and God helps them.”

“There should be proper investigation mechanisms while applying this law. We should not consider anyone sinful for this act [blasphemy] without any proof, she added.”

Speaking about her time in a Pakistani jail, Bibi said that her Christian faith had never faltered and also said she never cried in front of her daughters when they visited her in jail, “I used to cry alone filled with pain and grief,” she added.

In the interview, Bibi revealed she hopes to move to Europe with her family in the coming months. They are currently living in Canada.
