Knowing the One Who Always Keeps His Word

knowingFor God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil”—Genesis 3:5(NIV).

We all know people who have broken their promises. If you follow politics, you know it happens more times than we can count. But we all fall short because we, too, are promise breakers.

Just like Adam and Eve were tempted by Satan in the garden, we all fall prey to our human condition. Knowing we’ve given in to our selfish desires, we lose the peace that comes from obeying God. In Adam and Eve’s case, they lost a close fellowship with God.

Humans repeatedly break their promises. But God, who is the one true Promise Keeper, will never let us down. If we cling to Him, knowing He will never disappoint us with false promises, we’ll find peace.

Finding Peace in Scripture

I searched online to find an answer to the following question: “How many promises does God make in the Bible?” Page after page of results popped up but I didn’t find a definitive answer. Some pages focused on the top 25, 50, and even 100 promises. Other sites proclaimed thousands of God’s promises.

Regardless of the number, I can tell you personally that reading and meditating on God’s promises will bring peace. This peace only comes from knowing our Heavenly Father. It’s a lasting peace—a peace man can’t duplicate.

In the Psalms, we read of David’s understanding of God’s perfect peace. In Psalm 4:8, he writes, “In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety.”

Knowing God’s Peace

Understanding the peace that comes from spending time with God, David knew his Heavenly Father would keep him safe. When we’re filled with fear because of circumstances we can’t control, it’s time to seek His peace in the pages of the Bible.

One scripture that always brings me peace is found in Matthew 28:20. Speaking to His disciples, Jesus made this promise, “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Knowing that Jesus is always with me, even to the end of the age, wipes away any worries, fears, or anguish threatening to destroy my peace. God promised us His peace.

God Always Keeps His Promises

God’s Word is full of promises to His children—promises filled with hope and eternal life. American evangelist Dwight L. Moody, once said, “God never made a promise that was too good to be true.”

Pursue God. Seek and meditate on His promises in scripture. You’ll find the peace you crave. Below are some scriptures to get you started. Underline or highlight them in your Bible. Write them down on note cards and carry them with you or post them around your house.

  • “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”—Isaiah 41:10.
  • “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged”—Deuteronomy 31:8.
  • “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”—John 16:33.

Memorize them and store them in your heart.
